Stamps and Stencils

Hello There Crafty Doer! I had such fun exploring mixed media for this month’s little series I called Mixed Media March Madness. For the last project I created an art journal entry in my Dylusions Square Ledger Journal by Ranger using stamps and stencils. Here’s how it went:

I used a resist technique with Distress Micro Glaze and the Mixed Stencil from Creative Worship Stamps. Unfortunately, I believe I heat set the wax at one point and the white space began to soak up color in the middle of my process. No problem! I ink blended the stencil throughout the page with all the colors because I really wanted to showcase it in this project.

I used a mop brush for a watercolor technique as the base of the page and then added splatters. Drying in between layers, I used Distress Watercolor Pencils for a different shade of the same Spring colors and a different effect once dried. I used Creative Worship’s Psalm 23 Background Stamp in all the colors to stamp on top of their respected colors.

I used a stencil by Vicki Boutin with Distress Texture Paste which ended up soaking up some color when I went back in with my mop brush to blend the colors and rid of the harsh lines. Then, I used a cloth to apply white acrylic paint through her circles stencil. I fussy cut poppy flowers from Creative Worship Stamps Flower Garden Stamp Set and applied the Psalm 23 Background Stamp with Distress Black Soot in the white space.

Before adhering the poppies, I ink blended Black Soot where I was going to place the flowers for some shadowing. I stamped butterflies from the Flower Garden Stamp Set in Black Soot throughout the page to tie in the black. I dabbed it with water to distress it and ink blended Black Soot on top of them. I did the same to the edges of the page. I hand wrote the sentiment and cut with my scissors.

“How many greats have become the least for me? Only one did that for me.” Is a verse from a song traditionally played in the Christmas season but I resonated with it during this Good Friday. I reflected on how Jesus Christ not only gave up His life for me (as if that wasn’t enough) but went through excruciating pain to get to his death. The Good News is that His death had a great purpose. Jesus paid for all the bad things you have ever done and all of the bad things you will ever do. When you believe this, you will receive the Holy Spirit (and you will know this, there’s no missing the Holy Spirit!) and you will have a beautiful everlasting life.

Thanks for popping in! You can watch this process video and all of the Mixed Media March Madness series on YouTube HERE. Below is the list of Distress Oxides that I used in this project and remember that you create because YOU were fearfully and wonderfully created. You belong even if paper crafting isn’t your thing.
